After two weeks off, I returned to work this morning. Sleepy and unmotivated, I muscled through a few last-minute preparations for an afternoon presentation. At lunch, I fought the urge to curl up for a nap and then reluctantly headed to the training site.
It was a small group, and I wasn't sure what to expect, so I kept my expectations low. An hour and a half later, I turned to my co-presenter and proclaimed, "I want to work here. These guys are awesome!"
It was true. The group with which I had so reluctantly--almost begrudgingly--begun the new year's training rounds was one of the best audiences to date. As we finished up for the afternoon, a few participants stopped to thank us for the training. One gave us prayer bracelets that she made as a token of appreciation, and I couldn't help but feel ashamed for my earlier inner negativity. These ladies and gentlemen had taught the teacher, and they turned my foul attitude into enthusiasm and hope.
